4 Ways to Style that H&M Knitted Vest

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last month or so, you’ve no doubt seen those H&M knitted vests or gilets that are allllll over the internet. First came the v-neck, then the high neck and now I think I’ve even seen a crop version pop up a couple of days ago. They are the perfect in-between season piece for someone like me who’s pretty much dying to get their knitwear out, but is also still wrestling with some sort of Indian Summer or mini September heatwave.

Anyway, irrespective of the current back and forth weather situation we’ve got going on, I took the plunge and purchased the knit in the hope of styling it whatever the weather over the coming season.

I’ve already styled it for the hot weather taking my inspiration from Georgina Lennons Instagram, where she paired the knit with denim shorts and chunky boots. A gorgeous juxtaposition of seasonal items to create the perfect off-duty, late Summer chic for strolling around town or grabbing a coffee.

My style is, more often than not, based around a neutral colour palette with pieces that can easily interchange between looks and I find that helps me style items in various ways to get the most out of the things that I buy. So I’ve pulled together four different outfit combinations to show how I would wear the H&M vest for lots of occasions.

H&M Rib Knit Slipover £19.99

Look #1

Probably the most ‘work-friendly’ look of the four, this would be a perfect outfit to wear if you work in a relaxed office environment. Paired with a long-sleeved, crisp white shirt the knitted slipover takes on a slightly more formal vibe which you could match with a pair of skinny faux leather leggings or tapered slim-leg trousers. Finish off the look with a neutral oversized handbag to carry your laptop in and a pair of mules or chunky sandals, because comfort is key when enduring a 9-5 day in the office.

Zara Faux Leather Leggings £25.99
Zara Double-Strap Sandals £55.99
Zara Bucket Bag £29.99

Look #2

I would probably wear this second look when grabbing brunch or a coffee with the girls. It contains another of my most-loved recent purchases, in these animal print slouchy trousers from Zara. The slouchy nature of the trousers with the baggy t-shirt give quite a casual but still ‘put together’ style and the contrasting dark accessories add an edge to the outfit whilst pulling everything together.

*H&M Wide Cotton T-Shirt £6.99
Zara Tote Bag with Topstitching £29.99
Zara Animal Print Slouchy Trousers £29.99
Zara Soft Leather Loafers with Studs £49.99

Look #3

For the colder days coming up, throwing a really oversized dad blazer over the knitted slipover is perfect. I love the contrast of the blue denim with the lighter neutrals of the knit and blazer, then paired with trainers and a backpack, this instantly becomes a super casual look that I would wear to go shopping or even for a day out with the kids.

Weekday Tegan Oversized Dad Blazer £60.00
*H&M Slim Mom High Ankle Jeans £19.99
Superga 2750 White Trainers £49.99
ASOS Design minimal Backpack £24.00

Look #4

Last but certainly not least, this might be my favourite look and is the one you can see me wearing throughout this post. This combination works really well for warmer September days as the knit is not too heavy. Worn alone over faux leather shorts or cycling shorts and chunky track sole boots this creates such an edgy but effortless, street-style look which I am a huge fan of. I honestly wish we had more warmer days coming up so I could wear this over and over again.

*Stradivarius Chunky Sole Chelsea Boots £45.99
ASOS Design minimal Backpack £24.00
