The overshirt or ‘shirt jacket’ is an item that’s become hugely popular this season. There’s been a few sell-out checked versions in both H&M and Topshop and now other brands have joined the party, bringing some none checked pieces into the mix. I remember seeing a few of these pop up on the high street at the very end of Winter earlier this year, but I never bought into the trend – I imagine I was already in Spring/Summer mode at that point!
One of the things I love most about this style of jacket is that they are so easy to wear and help to create that laid-back, casual look, whilst still looking put together. They’re a really cool transitional (there’s that word again) jacket to wear and whilst not being too thick, they still provide an extra layer of warmth that’s needed this time of year; most of them being a wool-blend fabric.
I really like a casual jacket that you can throw on over different looks and this is exactly that. I recently bought an over-sized wool version from H&M and I know I’ll be wearing it through Autumn and then with extra layers underneath throughout Winter.
Styling Tips:
I LOVE an over-sized shirt jacket as I think they’re so much easier to style and I kind of like making fitted pieces like a roll neck or skinny jeans look more masculine with over-sized jackets and blazers thrown on over the top. Here, I fastened the jacket up and paired it with skinny, faux leather trousers and some old Topshop boots for a very easy Autumn outfit. Other ways I plan to wear this are open, over a fitted roll neck and mom jeans or over a satin slip skirt and trainers – always keeping it easy and casual.
When I posted this over on my Instagram, I had a few questions about where it was from and unfortunately it sold out almost immediately, so I’ve found a few alternatives for you to shop below…
