2019 Spring Colour Trend: Living Coral

There’s a new colour on the block this Spring/Summer and it goes by the name ‘Living Coral’. It’s been dubbed the Pantone Colour of the year 2019, described by them as follows;  “Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing colour that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.”

For anyone who’s not heard of Pantone, they have a business unit called The Pantone Colour Institute, who through forecasting, seasonal trend analytics and colour psychology, work with brands and companies globally to bring colour to life through their design. The Pantone Colour of the Year is influenced by a multitude of things, such as travel, fashion, art, interiors, social media, sporting events and technology. The selection process is extremely detailed and Pantone have therefore been successful in influencing all aspects of the design world with their Colour of the Year for the last two decades.

I say this is a Spring shade, however, this is quite clearly the colour that is going to take us right through into the Summer months so any pieces that you invest in will be good staple items for your wardrobe over the coming months.

I’ve heavily invested in a lot of nude and neutral coloured items since the beginning of the year and for me, Living Coral is the ideal shade to add to those neutral looks to introduce a pop of colour and brighten up a tonal outfit. It’s also perfect for holidays so swimwear and beachwear would be a good shout if you want to dip your toe in before going all out with trend-driven, everyday pieces, but as I mentioned above; the Pantone Colour of the Year isn’t restricted to fashion so I’ll be on the lookout for a similar shade in my beloved Shellac so that even my nails are on point come June and July.

Here are a few pieces that are in stores now, all linked below.
