If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I’ve recently been away on holiday to Mykonos. As amazing as it was, my skincare and haircare routine went completely out of the window, as it does everytime I go away. I don’t know about you, but I try my best and always take products away with me to make sure my routine is kept somewhat the same, however, a couple of days in and everything changes!
So when I got back home from the airport you can imagine how happy I was to see this little box waiting for me. This months Birchbox aims to celebrate the changing seasons and welcome in Autumn with cosy pamper nights, filled with luxurious, season-appropriate products.
This month I received;
-BeautyPro Thermotherapy Foil Mask
-Winky Lux Strobing Balm
-Amika Hari Mask
-Daily Concepts Charcoal Soap Sponge
-Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant
-Lumene Overnight Cream
Beauty Pro THERMOTHERAPY Warming Gold Foil Mask RRP £5.95
So I’m not the biggest fan of sheet masks. I usually prefer an actual cream mask that I can apply, however, this gold foil mask from BeautyPro boasts a range of amazing properties so once I’d read up on that I was actually pretty excited to use it.
It contains hyaluronic acid and Q10 (which I massively needed after my holidays) and the self-warming nature of the mask claims to help the ingredients penetrate the skin more deeply to improve elasticity, hydrate the skin and boost your natural glow.
The mask was definitely hydrating and the luminous gold effect was definitely a more glam way to start my pamper night. On the other hand, I couldn’t really feel much of the warming effect and also found the mask very, very wet. It was soaked in product which made it quite hard to apply and the formula was dripping off the mask whilst I had it on my face – not ideal. For that reason, I don’t think it’s one that I’d buy again.
Winky Lux Strobing Balm (Radiant Pink) RRP £15
Winky Lux is not a beauty brand that I’ve heard of before so I did a little bit of research to find out that they are a fairly new, up and coming NYC based brand who pride themselves on their products being free from nasty chemicals and also cruelty-free as well. This is something that stood out to me as I’m currently trying to move more to cruelty-free, environmentally friendly products where I can, in a bid to have some positive impacts on the earth so it’s good to see a product like this available at a decent price.
The balm itself is a beautiful, creamy texture and applies perfectly onto the skin even with just a fingertip. It blends well and is easily buildable as the colour is not too strong.
I love a cream highlighter and this one lived up to my expectations.
amika Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask RRP£20
I was desperately in need of this one, as my hair really dries out in the sun. I think this was the first thing I picked up to use out of this months box and I was not disappointed.
The masks ingredients include ‘Sea buckthorn berry’ which is something I’ve never heard of before but is apparently perfect for hydrating your hair and working to repair damage and split ends. You apply the mask after shampooing and leave for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.
It had such a lovely, intense scent to it which I always love in any hair product. It has a very thick formula similar to a conditioner and applies to the hair well. My hair felt much more hydrated and healthy after using the mask so for me, it’s definitely worth the RRP and is something that I will be investing in again.
Daily Concepts Multi-Functional Charcoal Soap Sponge RRP £6
This is the one product out of the box that I haven’t used yet but I have been told that it’s pretty good. It’s a 2-in-1 charcoal cleansing sponge which I’m a huge fan of, as it means you get to combine two steps of your morning routine into one.
I’ve liked all other charcoal skin products that I’ve used before so I’m sure this will be just as good. To be honest, I’m just looking forward to it giving me an extra 5 minutes in bed in the mornings.
Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Bergamot + Lime RRP £10.50
I’ve received a similar deodorant from Birchbox before and I wasn’t really a big fan if I’m honest. I much prefer an antiperspirant but am always willing to give things a go, just in case I change my mind. The formula for this one is plant-based rather than using aluminium to neutralise any scent and is 100% natural with a mixture of essential oils.
I’ll start with the scent which is Bergamot & Lime. So I’m really against any type of fruit-scented body product, it’s just not for me and I won’t use fruity shower gel, moisturiser, perfume etc. I can just about cope with hair products so I was never really destined to get on with the fragrance of this. It’s very strong but I think that’s down to personal preference and if you like fruity products then you won’t be as offended as I am.
When applied, the deodorant has quite a grainy texture and reminds me of a sugar scrub. It does sink into the skin after application, but initially, it’s not a very nice feeling. That said, I have been using it for a few days and it does its job perfectly as well as being vegan and cruelty-free!
Lumene Hydration Recharge Overnight Cream RRP £17.90
One of my favourite products of all, this overnight cream was a dream. I’ve been curious about Lumene skincare for a while, as I’ve seen a lot of people using it so was really happy to receive a sample from Birchbox.
This one uses a balance of shea butter and birch sap to rejuvenate and hydrate your skin overnight leaving it nourished and recharged by morning. It is quite a rich, thick cream which I absolutely love in any nighttime product – you can feel it working as soon as you apply the cream and my skin felt revitalised when I woke up. This is something that I would be more than happy buying again and it’s already on my wishlist for payday.
I hope you enjoyed reading about this months box guys. Let me know what you received in yours and what you thought of any of the products! I’m considering moving my Birchbox unboxing/first impressions over to my Instagram stories so let me know what your thoughts are and come follow me over on Instagram too!
