August Birchbox

This months Birchbox was a really good mix of beauty, skin and haircare. It’s probably my favourite thing to receive a mix of everything because it’s just an excuse to plan another pamper night so that I can try everything out.

The products I received this month were; Rituals Foaming Shower Gel, Luseta Beauty Keratin Conditioner, Dr. Botanicals Pomegranate Sleeping Mask, CLE Cosmetics Lip Powder and Dirty Little Secrets Eyeshadow Stick. I have found that some boxes can be a bit hit and miss, but I was more than satisfied with the bits that I was sent this month and have spoken to a few other people who loved theirs too.

This month, Birchbox teamed up with 10 Etsy sellers to create a collection of box designs with a theme of ‘Live a Life Beautiful’. As a result, each box was a complete surprise as no-one knew which design they were going to receive. The box designs were all beautiful and individual and the gorgeous one I was sent, was by Holly Maguire who does the cutest illustrations – check out her Instagram here.

Rituals The Ritual of Happy Buddha Foaming Shower Gel RRP £8.50
When I opened the box and saw this shower gel, I was SO happy! I absolutely love Rituals products and have received them in Birchboxes before. This shower gel is fragranced with Sweet Orange and Cedar Wood so smells amazing and puts Imperial Leather Foamburst to shame with it’s foamy lather. It lasts so long because the tiniest bit foams up so much, so although its slightly more expensive at £8.50 for 200ml, it will last a long time and is good value for money.

Luseta Beauty Keratin Smooth Conditioner RRP £19.00
This conditioner is said to reduce frizz and fly aways with it’s nourishing formulation which includes Keratin among other ingredients.

I’ve not used it yet, but other Keratin products i’ve used in the past have worked well to nourish and condition my hair and leave it extra soft and silky so I don’t doubt that this will do the same. All of the reviews on the Birchbox website are 5* so other users are certainly happy with the results.

Dr.Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Sleeping Mask RRP £14.90
I’ve never used a sleep face mask before so I was quite intrigued as to how this would work. Directions for use are to apply a thin layer onto clean, dry skin similar to how you’d apply a moisturiser, leave on overnight and cleanse as normal in the morning.

So I did as it said and it felt quite strange at first, as the product really does just dissolve into the skin like a moisturiser. I tried to leave a visible layer on the skin, but again it sank into the skin quite quickly. After a few minutes you feel the skin begin to tighten, exactly like when you apply any other face mask which I like because it feels like it’s actually working on your skin and making a difference.

When I woke up in the morning and washed the mask off, I didn’t see a noticeable difference but directions do say to use it 2-3 times a week and I assume it’s making more of a difference to the ‘behind the scenes’ and hydrating the skin from the inside out.

CLE Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder (Red Cherry) RRP £15.00
So again, another product that i’d not really seen before which is a lip powder. The product applies as a powder, but then melts into a long lasting lip tint with a matte finish.

It’s rated overall as a 3 out of 5 on Birchbox by other users and I think that was mainly down to the concept and that people were unsure on how to apply and use it. Some also got the tint all over their carpet as they opened the pack so I can imagine that didn’t go down too well.

I probably won’t use this as i’m not a fan of bright pink lip colours, but it’s definitely interesting to say the least.

Dirty Little Secrets Eyeshadow Stick (Gold Plated) RRP £10.50
Lastly, is probably my second favourite product in this months box and that’s this golden eyeshadow stick. I’ve used it almost everyday for the last 2 weeks and that’s definitely a good sign, as I’ll usually forget about eye shadow unless I want a bit of a change or i’m going out.

It’s a gorgeous light, creamy gold colour – perfect for blending as a base colour or wearing on it’s own for a very subtle daytime look. The consistency is lovely and it blends easily with just your finger.
I’d go as far as saying its one of the better eyeshadow sticks i’ve used in a long time and it’s seriously worth the spend.

I think this months box is still available for the next few days so if you want it, head to Birchbox and place your order QUICK! Let me know if you’ve used any of the products i’ve talked about above and if your opinion on any differs to mine.
