February Birchbox

The theme of this months Birchbox was ‘Beauty Through The Decades’ and around mid January, I received a little email asking me to choose the design of my box from either the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s. Being born in ’89, I obvs went for the 80’s designed box and what a cool little design it is! I love the colours and the pattern, they remind me of those wild printed shirts and dresses that we have all seen photographs of our parents wearing in their younger years.

The products in this months box were also inspired by beauty in the 80’s which I thought was very clever. The products I received were;

-Luseta Hair Mask
-Balance Me Eye Cream
-Percy & Reed Finishing Polish
-Pixi Lip Balm
-The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio

Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask RRP £32
This Coconut hair mask was one of my favourite products in this months box. It’s a hair mask designed to repair damaged hair thats in need of a little more than the usual wash and condition. It smells amazing but also does an absolutely brilliant job of nourishing your hair.

I left it on my hair for around 30-45 minutes (the instructions say 5-10 so I don’t know if it makes any difference) before washing it off and following my usual routine, but sure enough afterwards my hair felt super soft and silky and I could definitely tell the difference. My hair remained really soft for a few days after as well, which is an added bonus.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream RRP £20
So this product is probably my other favourite because it absolutely amazes me and I will definitely be re-buying once this one has run out. Since i’m closer to my 30th birthday than my 25th, I try to put a lot of thought and time into my skincare routine and one thing I swear by is anything eye-related. I love my eye creams, gels and even eye drops because i think the eyes (just like your hands) really tell your age and you can slow down the ageing process by looking after them.

My night time go-to is the Mario Badescu Glycolic Eye Cream I spoke about in an old favourites post you can read here. The Wonder cream from Balance Me is a lot gentler and has a 99% natural formula made up of things like chamomile and cucumber oils as well as coconut and carrot oils, which all do different jobs but joined together make the perfect team.

I’ve used this cream everyday since receiving it and there has been a huge improvement in both the dark circles and under eye bags that I usually have to work hard to cover up with concealer and other make up.

Percy & Reed Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish RRP £10
I was quite excited to try this hair polish out but sadly i’m not a fan. It was quite a sticky, stiff product which I was expecting to soften and melt a little more in my hands and hair but it didn’t and stayed on the surface of my hair leaving it with a weird texture.

I think I was probably expecting something different than I got and if you need a styling product to keep your hair in place then this is the one, but that’s not really a look or texture that I tend to go for so I won’t be reaching for this again any time soon.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink RRP £8
I’m obsessed with anything Pixi, so when I opened my February box and saw this inside I was very happy. I already have the same product in another shade and use it every day under my standard liquid lipstick and then throughout the day to keep my lips moisturised. They give so much instant moisture but also a great tint of colour without being to over bearing which I love. This bright pink shade is a tribute to the 80’s and although not my usual kinda lip colour, I would definitely still recommend the product because I love them.

The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio in Love You So Latte RRP £7
This is the only product out of this months box that I haven’t tried yet. Another tribute to a trend from the 80’s (the smokey eye) this one certainly fits the theme of my box and is a full-sized product, like the Pixi Lip Balm. There are 3 colours in the trio, a dark matte brown, a medium shimmery brown and a lighter golden colour which again has a shimmery, metallic finish. The colours all work well together so hopefully i’ll be able to recreate a retro smokey eye when I give the product a go.

Thanks for reading guys, I know this one is a little late on in the month so look out for my March Birchbox post coming in the next couple of weeks. Rumour has it there may be a Blaq Face Mask and a Benefit BadGal Bang mascara sample, which I am DYING to try out.

See you soon! x
